Toshihiko Koga's One-Handed Sode-Tsurikomi-Goshi

Over the years, there have been many exponents of the one-handed sode-tsurikomi-goshi but the granddaddy of them all is Japan’s Toshihiko Koga, who debuted this technique at the 1989 World Championships.

He didn’t score with the throw as his opponent managed to flip onto his front but it was still a breathtaking technique that thrilled the crowds.

By the time the 1991 World Championships came around, Koga had perfected the technique and used it to great effect against his rival Bertalan Hajtos, whom he would later meet in the final of the 1992 Olympics.

In his last World Championships appearance, in 1995, Koga used the technique twice and both times he scored ippon with it.
