Sumi-Gaeshi Feint into Ouchi-Gari
When you do sumi-gaeshi, you are throwing uke towards his diagonal front. The fear of a sumi-gaeshi attack will make uke pull backwards. You can take advantage of this to do a backwards throw.
In this video, Shintaro demonstrates how you can do an ouchi-gari from a sumi-gaeshi feint.
He starts off with an absolutely typical 2-on-1 grip that is synonymous with sumi-gaeshi. This gets uke thinking a sumi-gaeshi attack is imminent.
Tori enters into what looks like a sumi-gaeshi attack.
Uke braces for the forward attack, pulling back slightly. Tori places his right leg back down onto the mat.
He immediately drops down low as he does an ouchi-gari attack on uke’s left leg. Tori’s knees are almost touching the mat.
Tori does a semi-circular movement with his right leg while drive forward to take uke down towards his back.
