Sumi-Gaeshi Feint into Kouchi-Gake
In the previous blog posting, we looked at a sumi-gaeshi feint into ouchi-gari. For this posting, we will look at a sumi-gaeshi feint into kouchi-gake.
It starts off the same way, with a sumi-gaeshi grip, which makes uke fearful of a forward attack.
A sumi-gaeshi feint convinces uke that a sumi-gaeshi attack is happening.
Instead of following through with the sumi-gaeshi, tori retreats with his left leg. Uke’s right leg follows suit.
Tori pushes uke’s left arm across his body and points in the direction of the throw, while tori’s right leg hooks uke’s right leg in a kosoto-gake action.
Tori dives into uke to ensure that an ippon is scored.
