Slow motion Judo: Kuzushi, Tsukuri, Kake

This is the video that started it all. I put this together people Saturday morning Judo practice in my office. By the time I was done for the day, it had 20,000 views on FB. I was blown away. It went on to get over 2 million views and IJF featured it in TOP 10 best judo videos of 2018. Very cool stuff.

When you are watching this video, may I suggest that you pay close attention to Balance and Off balance. Judo is a game of taking center of gravity away from your opponent’s base. This video is a demo of some of the dynamic throws of judo, but in reality, most of the game is housed in the fighting for position in order to most effectively execute the three parts of the throw.

Kuzushi, tsukuri and the kake.

Kuzushi is off balance, tsukuri is making the throw, and kake is the final execution.

People tend to overly focus on these three areas in practice (like during drills), but we need to extent that focus far above and beyond in order to make our judo better.
